Rediscover Estonia in a new light, revisiting your favourite places, enriched by new encounters and experiences. Search the Homo Faber Guide to find gems of craftsmanship, to organise visits to artisan workshops and courses to express your own creativity. 

Go in search of artisans hidden within the city walls of Tallinn. Wind your way to the workshop of jewellery maker Marita Lumi and get a taste of her craft by participating in one of her many experiences; leave with your own handmade ring or piece of silver jewellery. For those looking to discover something out of the ordinary, venture to see two artisans who are pushing boundaries with their innovative techniques. Admire the way porcelain maker Raili Keiv combines porcelain with wood to create her curious objects or catch a glimpse of the novel way Urmas Pukhan works with ceramics. If you are looking to make a statement with your eyewear, Karl Annus will make you a pair in plywood to suit your face shape and they will certainly boost your sustainable credentials. For a pop of colour to add some joy to your daily outfits, Inga Raidikainen creates shoes and accessories handmade from layers of vibrant leather.

Tallinn’s medieval streets also play host to a collection of shops dedicated to selling the pieces of Estonian craftspeople. Estonian Design House is the go-to destination to discover the works of Estonian designers, from home furnishings to jewellery to fashion accessories, find unique pieces to cherish forever. For leather lovers, head to Stella Soomlais where you will find a selection of handcrafted leather bags, wallets, wristbands, pouches and other accessories all made by local leatherworkers. Matching style with sustainability, you can even rent a bag here to accompany you on your mini-breaks. For jewellery lovers, no trip is complete without a visit to Agallerii, which showcases the jewellery pieces of over 80 different Estonian jewellery makers and designers. Whilst in the city, why not take the time to visit Tallinn City Museum to discover the history of the city through its craftsmanship treasures. 
 
Head south to seek out more talented Estonian craftspeople who will inspire, surprise and delight in equal measure with their inventive creative processes and passion for their respective crafts. First stop, the workshop of glassworker Aleksandra Pavlenkova, one of very few to master the art of glassblowing in Estonia. Catch a glimpse of how she experiments with glassblowing techniques to make extraordinary objects. Revel in the use of colour and contemporary designs of leatherworker Tiina Andron, leave her workshop with a renewed zest for life. For an immersive experience, try your hand at glassworking under the masterful gaze of glass worker Karin Mölder, and learn the secrets behind her textural works. Make a special visit to the island of Saaremaa to see the ingenious way glassworker Mare Saare fuses dry glass powder in sand and quartz moulds to create her abstract masterpieces.

Curated by the Michelangelo Foundation, it is an online, searchable platform, which showcases artisans, ateliers, museums, galleries and experiences linked to fine craftsmanship in Europe. The platform connects craft enthusiasts, collectors, clients, curious travellers and designers with the continent’s crafting excellence. Using geolocalisation, the platform maps craftsmanship across the continent. Discover over 700 talented artisans across all corners of Europe, from glass blowers to mask makers, paper sculptors to silversmiths. Newly selected artisans appear weekly, with the aim of presenting over 1,000 masters and rising talents by 2021.
