Homo Faber NextGen - 2022 - Summer School

A Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship celebra novos horizontes para o seu Summer School Programme

O terceiro ano do Summer School Programme culminou num curso de duas semanas centrado na criação de azulejos Zellige em Tetouan, Marrocos.

 

  • Entre os 105 participantes das sete escolas de Verão de 2022, pela primeira vez foram convidados alunos internacionais a participar
  • Um curso sobre carpintaria japonesa acolheu um mestre carpinteiro e designer japonês para ensinar o seu ofício
  • Os alunos exploraram a ligação entre a gastronomia e o artesanato em Espanha

 

O terceiro ano do Michelangelo Foundation’s Summer School Programme marcou o início de uma perspetiva mais global para a iniciativa educacional. Em Marrocos, pela primeira vez foi realizado um curso fora da Europa e alunos de todo o mundo foram convidados a participar nas sete escolas de Verão. Os cursos equiparam os alunos com técnicas artesanais especializadas ligadas a uma região ou país específico e com novas competências de design contemporâneo. Foi ramificado um curso para incluir a gastronomia, à medida que os alunos exploravam as suas ligações ao artesanato.

 

 

No Domaine de Boisbuchet em França, 12 alunos tiveram a rara oportunidade de aprender sobre a carpintaria japonesa com o mestre carpinteiro Takami Kawai, e o design japonês com Wataru Kumano. Utilizaram as suas novas competências e conhecimentos recém-adquiridos para fazer um banco de árvore artesanal para os parques. O projeto de design coletivo deixou um legado duradouro, proporcionando uma zona de lazer onde os criativos residentes se podem reunir em conversas rodeados pela natureza.

Na Universidade de Évora, Portugal, os estudantes utilizaram técnicas de fabrico digital e de tecelagem com base em plantas ancestrais ensinadas por Domingos Vaz e Fernando Nelas Pereira para criar um dispositivo de sombreamento permanente. A empresa de engenharia e tecnologia Dosta Tec forneceu os seus conhecimentos para assegurar que o projeto fosse ambientalmente sustentável, enquanto os arquitetos Fátima Durkee e Astrid Suzano partilharam os seus conhecimentos de arquitetura.

 

Na Letónia, em Ligatne, cada um dos alunos fez uma cadeira utilizando a tecelagem de bétula, serralharia e escultura em madeira verde sob a orientação dos artesãos letões Rihards Vidzickis, Vizma Zvirbule, Sören Uhlmann, e Janis Straupe; bem como pelos designers internacionais Paul Heijnen, Maria Bruun, Lucas Maassen e Dmitri Bähler.

 

Em St Pölten, Áustria, 12 alunos trabalharam com a empresa pedreira local Breitweiser e a artesã Judith Wagner para explorar formas inovadoras de combinar técnicas tradicionais de pedreiro com tecnologia de ponta para criar objetos funcionais e obras de arte. Desde candeeiros impressionantes a vasos de plantas, obras de arte bem-humoradas a uma mesa apelativa, os alunos participantes demonstraram as suas novas competências com criações únicas.

Em Castilla-La Mancha, Espanha, 17 alunos criaram peças de cerâmica inspiradas nas tradições artesanais Talavera e na gastronomia local, para o restaurante El Raices, estrela da Michelin. Os alunos foram orientados pelo mestre de cerâmica Gustavo del Pino, a professora de design Laura Nava, o especialista em gastronomia Fernando Rafael e o chef Carlos Maldonado, estrela da Michelin.

Em Cremona, Itália, 12 alunos internacionais de locais tão longínquos como o Japão, reuniram-se para estudar a restauração de instrumentos musicais antigos sob a orientação de cinco mestres e especialistas. O curso de uma semana deu aos alunos participantes a oportunidade de aprenderem sobre a limpeza e restauro de instrumentos de cordas antigos utilizando tecnologia moderna e técnicas artesanais tradicionais.

The Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international centre for research and education on sustainably innovative design and architecture. Founded in 1986 by Alexander von Vegesack, it is located in the Southwest of France on 150 hectares of protected nature, namely forest, pasture, a river, a small lake, and an unpolluted fauna and flora. Boisbuchet's core activity are workshops for professionals and students in all kinds of applied arts – from craft to industrial design and engineering, from photography to scenography and curating, and from food to fashion and architecture. Passa Ao Futuro founded in 2016 by Astrid Suzano and Fatima Durkee, is a cultural initiative non-profit association that seeks out craftspeople in Portugal working with traditional techniques. It strives to support these communities and people through the documentation and preservation of their tacit knowledge, the development of case specific social, environmental and economic sustainability programmes, with a focus on the celebration  and passing on of skills. Founded in 2016 in Riga (Latvia), MAD Design Summer School offers an alternative approach to design and art education. At MAD’s base lies a unique creative environment, shaped by bringing designers, artists, craftspeople and scientists together under one roof. It encourages creative development with this setting, by promoting dialogue, discovery and self-assessment. Its programme combines both new and traditional methods - fusing design, art, technology, science and craftsmanship – to allow true creative thinking to take place. The New Design University St. Pölten (NDU) was founded by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce and its Business Development Institute in 2004. As an international destination for quality education in the fields of design, technology and business, the NDU trains creative thinkers who advance social change and explore tomorrow’s work and design practice today. The Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (INBA) in Morocco is an institution of higher education in the field of art, under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. It trains creative young people in the various fields of visual arts. Its vocation is to stimulate the development of new talents and train creative personalities (artists, designers, comic book authors, animated films, etc.) who can follow singular paths within a wide spectrum of disciplines in the world of visual arts (modern and contemporary). The University of Pavia is the most ancient athenaeum of Lombardy and one of the most oldest of Europe, being established in 1361. Today, it counts more than 25.000 students for the 17 departments of its branches, one in Pavia and the other one in Cremona, and takes part in international projects in networks with the most prestigious colleges of the world and promotes interdisciplinary research.
