Homo Faber NextGen - Summer School - ANNOUNCEMENT

Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship estende o seu Programa Summer School a sete países

Uma iniciativa educacional e internacional para financiar jovens artesãos e designers selecionados para participarem em cursos intensivos de curta duração organizados por membros da rede da Michelangelo Foundation, o Programa Summer School este ano estende a sua presença a sete países: Áustria, França, Itália, Letónia, Marrocos, Portugal e Espanha.

 

  • Mais de 100 participantes internacionais irão participar no Programa Summer School deste ano em sete países
  • Sete cursos intensivos de curta duração permitirão aos alunos a oportunidade de experimentarem um oficio local
  • Os participantes aprenderão uma série de técnicas, desde carpintaria japonesa a cestaria com fabrico digital
  • A fundação organiza o seu primeiro Summer School em África com um curso sobre o fabrico de azulejos marroquinos
  • Jovens fabricantes de violinos participarão de uma masterclass sobre a restauração de violinos antigos em Cremona, organizada pela Universidade de Pavia sob o patrocínio de Michelangelo Foundation, o curso decorre de 5 a 8 de julho de 2022

 

Coletivamente, o Programa Summer School oferece aos participantes a oportunidade única de aprender novas competências ligadas a ofícios tradicionais, trocar conhecimentos com colegas, mestres artesãos e designers e criar peças colaborativas originais. O programa procura transmitir técnicas ancestrais aos alunos que depois as aplicam em formas e contextos contemporâneos, ajudando a salvaguardar o saber fazer tradicional.

 

O programa de verão começa em junho em Castilla-La Mancha, Espanha, onde quinze participantes explorarão as técnicas tradicionais de cerâmica de Talavera da região de Toledo em ligação com a gastronomia local. Os alunos colaborarão com mestres artesãos e chefs para criarem louças de cerâmica para servir pratos gastronómicos locais. Organizado com o Embaixador do Homo Faber Guide Tomás Alía e cofinanciado pela Contemporanea de Artes y Oficios, Município de Castilla-La Mancha, o curso inclui um programa complementar de palestras organizadas por professores universitários sobre comércio, design, marketing e tecnologia, além de visitas a oficinas de cerâmica e locais de gastronomia.

 

Doze alunos encontrar-se-ão no Domaine de Boisbuchet, sudoeste da França, em junho, para uma introdução à carpintaria japonesa. Ao longo dos 10 dias trabalharão com ferramentas tradicionais de marcenaria, tanto a nível individual como coletivo. No campo francês, acompanhados pelo mestre carpinteiro Takami Kawai e pelo designer Wataru Kumanu, os participantes terão a oportunidade de mergulharem profundamente neste antigo oficio e método de construção sustentável usando as técnicas tradicionais num ambiente contemporâneo. Desenvolvido em parceria com o Domaine de Boisbuchet, o curso decorrerá paralelamente à construção de uma tradicional Torre de Pombos Árabe de barro, permitindo intercâmbios interessantes para todos os participantes.

 

Em agosto os alunos vão reunir-se na Universidade de Évora para descobrirem como as ferramentas de design digital podem ser aplicadas em conjunto com as técnicas tradicionais de cestaria para construir uma estrutura de sombreamento retrátil. O processo criativo e colaborativo orientará os alunos a desenhar e construir utilizando alta tecnologia e lo-TEK (Conhecimento Ecológico Tradicional). Organizado pela Passa Ao Futuro e Dosta Tec em conjunto com o _ARTERIA_LAB e a Escola das Artes da Universidade de Évora. Este programa é cofinanciado por Magallanes_ICC - Interrreg Portugal – Espanha.

 

No final do mesmo mês, dezasseis alunos combinarão talentos criativos em Ligatne, Letónia, para explorar a interseção entre ciência e tecnologia com ofícios ligados ao design de móveis. Focalisando nas técnicas de oficios tradicionais de ferraria, escultura em madeira verde e tecelagem em casca de bétula, os participantes usarão as competências ensinadas por artesãos locais de renome, bem como novas tecnologias para criarem de forma inovadora uma das peças de mobiliário mais essenciais – a cadeira. O curso contará ainda com o contributo de designers e artistas internacionais altamente reconhecidos para intervirem como tutores e lecionadores.

 

Em St Pölten, na Áustria, quinze estudantes reunir-se-ão em setembro para descobrir técnicas locais de alvenaria de pedra sob a orientação do designer Daniel Zeisner, responsável do curso de design de produto da New Design University. Trabalhando com empresas locais de pedra, os participantes irão colaborar para explorar o uso da pedra de maneiras inesperadas e inovadoras, combinando técnicas tradicionais dos ofícios de pedra com tecnologia de ponta. O curso é apoiado pela New Design University, Stonemason guild e Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

 

Pela primeira vez, um Summer School terá lugar em setembro em Tétouan, Marrocos, marcando o início da presença internacional desta iniciativa. Quinze participantes cuidadosamente selecionados poderão descobrir a arte do Zellige, uma técnica tradicional de fabrico de mosaicos marroquinos. Através de uma abordagem colaborativa e uma visão de design contemporâneo, os alunos irão reexplorar e reimaginar esta técnica ancestral local. O curso é organizado em parceria com o Institut National des Beaux-Arts em Tétouan.

The Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international centre for research and education on sustainably innovative design and architecture. Founded in 1986 by Alexander von Vegesack, it is located in the Southwest of France on 150 hectares of protected nature, namely forest, pasture, a river, a small lake, and an unpolluted fauna and flora. Boisbuchet's core activity are workshops for professionals and students in all kinds of applied arts – from craft to industrial design and engineering, from photography to scenography and curating, and from food to fashion and architecture. Internationally renowned pioneers in their fields direct these workshops offering practical experiences in all aspects of the creative process. Passa Ao Futuro founded in 2016 by Astrid Suzano and Fatima Durkee, is a cultural initiative non-profit association that seeks out craftspeople in Portugal working with traditional techniques. It strives to support these communities and people through the documentation and preservation of their tacit knowledge, the development of case specific social, environmental and economic sustainability programmes, with a focus on the celebration  and passing on of skills. The association activates this network through several initiatives including residencies, summer schools, exhibitions, social innovation and sustainability training. Founded in 2016 in Riga (Latvia), MAD Design Summer School offers an alternative approach to design and art education. At MAD’s base lies a unique creative environment, shaped by bringing designers, artists, craftspeople and scientists together under one roof. It encourages creative development with this setting, by promoting dialogue, discovery and self-assessment. Its programme combines both new and traditional methods - fusing design, art, technology, science and craftsmanship – to allow true creative thinking to take place. By working with raw materials, young creatives are simultaneously guided towards a more sustainable manufacturing mindset. The New Design University St. Pölten (NDU) was founded by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce and its Business Development Institute in 2004. As an international destination for quality education in the fields of design, technology and business, the NDU trains creative thinkers who advance social change and explore tomorrow’s work and design practice today. The New Design University is a young, future-oriented private university. The Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (INBA) in Morocco is an institution of higher education in the field of art, under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. It trains creative young people in the various fields of visual arts. Its vocation is to stimulate the development of new talents and train creative personalities (artists, designers, comic book authors, animated films, etc.) who can follow singular paths within a wide spectrum of disciplines in the world of visual arts (modern and contemporary). A multidisciplinary team of research professors, artists, architects and experienced professionals ensure the theoretical, artistic and technical training and structure for the students.

The University of Pavia is the most ancient athenaeum of Lombardy and one of the most oldest of Europe, being established in 1361. Today, it counts more than 25.000 students for the 17 departments of its branches, one in Pavia and the other one in Cremona, and takes part in international projects in networks with the most prestigious colleges of the world and promotes interdisciplinary research. The current Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage is based in Cremona and  it offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Musicology, Science of literary text and cultural heritage, as well as a PhD programme. The International School of Violin Making is partnered with the University of Pavia’s musicology department.
