Homo Faber NextGen - Summer School - ANNOUNCEMENT

La Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship amplía su programa Summer School a otros siete países

 

Una iniciativa educativa internacional destinada a la financiación de un grupo de jóvenes artesanos y diseñadores que han sido seleccionados para los cursos intensivos que imparten algunos miembros de la red de Michelangelo Foundation. Nuestro programa Summer School de este año se amplía a otros siete países: Austria, Francia, Italia, Letonia, Marruecos, Portugal y España.

 

 

  • Más de 100 participantes internacionales seguirán el programa Summer School que este año abarcará siete países
  • Siete cursos intensivos de corta duración para que los estudiantes aprendan técnicas de artesanía local
  • Los participantes aprenderán una variedad de técnicas que incluyen carpintería japonesa y cestería de fabricación digital
  • Este año, nuestra fundación llevará a cabo su primer Summer School en África sobre fabricación de mosaicos marroquíes
  • La Universidad de Pavía, con el patrocinio de Michelangelo Foundation, organiza una clase magistral del 5 al 8 de julio de 2022 sobre restauración de violines antiguos en Cremona. El curso está destinado a jóvenes lutieres.

 

Globalmente, los participantes de las Summer Schools cuentan con una oportunidad única: aprender nuevas técnicas artesanales mientras intercambian conocimientos con compañeros, maestros artesanos y diseñadores. El objetivo consiste en crear piezas originales de manera conjunta. El programa se basa en la transmisión de técnicas ancestrales a los estudiantes para que luego puedan aplicarlas en un contexto y una forma contemporáneas, contribuyendo así a conservar un saber hacer tradicional.

Nuestro extenso programa estival empieza en junio, en España, en la Comunidad de Castilla-La Mancha, donde quince participantes explorarán las técnicas de la tradicional Cerámica de Talavera, en la Comunidad de Castilla-La Mancha, buscando a la vez una conexión con la gastronomía local. Los estudiantes trabajarán en colaboración con los maestros artesanos y los docentes con objeto de crear una vajilla de cerámica idónea para la gastronomía local. El curso, organizado por Tomás Alía, embajador de Michelangelo Foundation, y cofinanciado por la Asociación Contemporánea de Artes y Oficios y la Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, incluye un programa complementario de conferencias a cargo de la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, así como visitas a talleres de cerámica y templos gastronómicos de Talavera de la Reina.

En junio, doce estudiantes se reunirán en el Domaine de Boisbuchet, al sudoeste de Francia, para asistir a una introducción a la carpintería japonesa. Durante 10 días trabajarán con herramientas de carpintería tradicionales, tanto de manera individual como colectiva. En Francia, en plena naturaleza, los participantes, guiados por Takami Kawai (maestro carpintero) y Wataru Kumanu (diseñador), profundizarán en este antiguo método artesanal de construcción sostenible, utilizando las técnicas tradicionales en un entorno moderno. El curso, desarrollado en colaboración con Domaine de Boisbuchet, tendrá lugar en paralelo con la construcción de un tradicional palomar árabe de barro, lo cual facilitará los intercambios entre todos los participantes.

En agosto, los estudiantes se reunirán en la Universidad de Évora para descubrir la aplicación de herramientas de diseño digital, asociadas con técnicas de cestería tradicionales, para construir una estructura de sombra replegable. Durante el proceso creativo, realizado de forma conjunta, los estudiantes diseñarán y construirán una estructura que une la alta tecnología y lo-TEK (Técnicas Ecológicas Tradicionales). Este curso será organizado por Passa Ao Futuro, Dosta Tec, _ARTERIA_LAB y la Escuela de Artes de la Universidad de Évora. Este programa está cofinanciado por Magallanes_ICC - Interrreg Portugal – España.

Ese mismo mes, dieciséis estudiantes combinarán sus talentos creativos en Ligatne, Letonia, para explorar la interrelación entre la ciencia y la tecnología con la artesanía para el diseño mobiliario. Los participantes utilizarán diversas técnicas artesanales y tradicionales de herrería, talla de madera y trenzado de corteza de abedul que les enseñarán artesanos locales de renombre. Estas técnicas tradicionales se combinarán con las nuevas tecnologías para crear una silla, pieza fundamental de cualquier mobiliario. El curso contará con la contribución de famosos diseñadores internacionales y artistas que intervendrán como tutores y conferenciantes.

En Sankt Pölten, Austria, quince estudiantes se darán cita en septiembre para descubrir las técnicas de cantería locales, bajo la guía del diseñador Daniel Zeisner, director del Curso de Diseño de Producto de la New Design University. Al trabajar con empresas locales del sector, los participantes investigarán el uso de la piedra de manera diferente e innovadora, combinando las técnicas de cantería tradicionales con lo último en materia tecnológica. El curso está organizado por la New Design University, el Sindicato de Canteros y la Cámara de Comercio de Austria.

En septiembre, se llevará a cabo por primera vez una Summer School en Tetuán, Marruecos, que marcará el inicio de la presencia internacional de nuestro programa. Hemos seleccionado cuidadosamente a quince participantes que descubrirán el arte del “zellige”, una técnica tradicional de fabricación de mosaicos marroquíes. A partir de un enfoque cooperativo y una moderna noción del diseño, los estudiantes se sumergirán y reinterpretarán las técnicas artesanales más famosas de esta región. El curso está organizado en colaboración con el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes de Tetuán.

Contemporanea de Artes y Oficios (CAO) is an association that promotes both traditional and contemporary Spanish crafts. They seek to protect Spanish craftsmanship, and use it to foster the development of culture, history and art and boost its economic benefits on the environment and tourism industry. Their main targets are to ensure an environment in which Spanish craftspeople can thrive and to aid them in having further commercial reach in Spain and internationally. The Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international centre for research and education on sustainably innovative design and architecture. Founded in 1986 by Alexander von Vegesack, it is located in the Southwest of France on 150 hectares of protected nature, namely forest, pasture, a river, a small lake, and an unpolluted fauna and flora. Boisbuchet's core activity are workshops for professionals and students in all kinds of applied arts – from craft to industrial design and engineering, from photography to scenography and curating, and from food to fashion and architecture. Passa Ao Futuro founded in 2016 by Astrid Suzano and Fatima Durkee, is a cultural initiative non-profit association that seeks out craftspeople in Portugal working with traditional techniques. It strives to support these communities and people through the documentation and preservation of their tacit knowledge, the development of case specific social, environmental and economic sustainability programmes, with a focus on the celebration  and passing on of skills. The association activates this network through several initiatives including residencies, summer schools, exhibitions, social innovation and sustainability training. Founded in 2016 in Riga (Latvia), MAD Design Summer School offers an alternative approach to design and art education. At MAD’s base lies a unique creative environment, shaped by bringing designers, artists, craftspeople and scientists together under one roof. It encourages creative development with this setting, by promoting dialogue, discovery and self-assessment. Its programme combines both new and traditional methods - fusing design, art, technology, science and craftsmanship – to allow true creative thinking to take place. By working with raw materials, young creatives are simultaneously guided towards a more sustainable manufacturing mindset. The New Design University St. Pölten (NDU) was founded by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce and its Business Development Institute in 2004. As an international destination for quality education in the fields of design, technology and business, the NDU trains creative thinkers who advance social change and explore tomorrow’s work and design practice today. The New Design University is a young, future-oriented private university. The Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (INBA) in Morocco is an institution of higher education in the field of art, under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. It trains creative young people in the various fields of visual arts. Its vocation is to stimulate the development of new talents and train creative personalities (artists, designers, comic book authors, animated films, etc.) who can follow singular paths within a wide spectrum of disciplines in the world of visual arts (modern and contemporary). A multidisciplinary team of research professors, artists, architects and experienced professionals ensure the theoretical, artistic and technical training and structure for the students.

The University of Pavia is the most ancient athenaeum of Lombardy and one of the most oldest of Europe, being established in 1361. Today, it counts more than 25.000 students for the 17 departments of its branches, one in Pavia and the other one in Cremona, and takes part in international projects in networks with the most prestigious colleges of the world and promotes interdisciplinary research. The current Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage is based in Cremona and  it offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Musicology, Science of literary text and cultural heritage, as well as a PhD programme. The International School of Violin Making is partnered with the University of Pavia’s musicology department.
