La Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship élargit son Summer School Programme à sept pays

Le Summer School Programme est une initiative pédagogique internationale qui finance la participation de jeunes artisans et designers à des cours intensifs proposés par des membres du réseau de la Michelangelo Foundation. Cette année, le programme élargit sa présence à sept pays : Autriche, Espagne, France, Italie, Lettonie, Maroc et Portugal.

De jeunes luthiers participeront à un master class consacré à la restauration de violons anciens à Crémone, organisé par l’Université de Pavie sous le parrainage de la Michelangelo Foundation.

Pour les participants, les Summer Schools sont l’occasion d’acquérir de nouvelles compétences dans les métiers de l’artisanat, mais aussi d’échanger avec leurs pairs, des maîtres artisans et des designers. Cela représente également une possibilité unique de créer des œuvres originales issues de ces collaborations. Grâce à ce programme, étudiants et jeunes diplômés découvrent des techniques qu’ils déclineront par la suite dans un contexte contemporain, contribuant à perpétuer ces savoir-faire traditionnels.

Le programme débute en juin dans la région de Castille-La Manche en Espagne. Une quinzaine de participants partira à la découverte des techniques traditionnelles de la céramique de Talavera dans la région de Tolède en lien avec la gastronomie locale. De leur collaboration avec des maîtres artisans et des chefs de cuisine naîtra une vaisselle en céramique spécialement créée pour y servir des mets locaux. Placée sous l’égide de Tomás Alía, ambassadeur d’Homo Faber Guide, ce cours bénéficie du financement conjoint de Contemporanea de Artes y Oficios et de la municipalité de Castille-La Manche. Une série de conférences données par des professeurs d’université sur les thèmes du commerce, du design, du marketing et de la technologie, viendra compléter le programme pratique de cette Summer School. Des visites dans des ateliers de céramique et des établissements gastronomiques sont également au programme.

Toujours au mois de juin, douze étudiants se retrouveront au Domaine de Boisbuchet, dans le sud-ouest de la France, afin de s’initier à la charpenterie japonaise. Pendant dix jours, ils travailleront avec des outils traditionnels, à la fois de manière individuelle et collective. En pleine nature, guidés par le maître charpentier Takami Kawai et le designer Wataru Kumanu, ils s’immergeront dans cette technique de construction séculaire et durable dans un cadre contemporain. Organisé par le Domaine de Boisbuchet, le cours se déroulera en même temps que la construction d’un pigeonnier traditionnel fait d’argile et de brique : l’occasion d’échanges fructueux pour tous les participants.

En août, d’autres étudiants se réuniront à l’université d’Évora pour découvrir comment des outils de design numérique peuvent se combiner avec des techniques traditionnelles de vannerie pour construire une structure d’ombrage rétractable. Le processus collaboratif de création guidera les participants dans la conception et la construction de cette structure, alliant haute technologie et Lo-TEK (« Traditional Ecological Knowledge » ou savoir écologique traditionnel). Organisé par Passa Ao Futuro et Dosta Tec avec _ARTERIA_LAB et la faculté d’art de l’université d’Évora, ce programme est cofinancé par Magallanes_ICC - Interrreg Portugal – Espagne.

Plus tard le même mois, seize étudiants mettront leurs talents créatifs en commun à Ligatne en Lettonie, afin d’explorer la croisée entre science, technologie et artisanat dans le design de meubles. S’intéressant aux techniques artisanales de la forge, de la sculpture sur bois vert et du tissage d’écorce de bouleau, les participants se serviront des compétences enseignées par des artisans locaux de renom ainsi que des nouvelles technologies afin de créer de manière innovante l’une des pièces de mobilier les plus fondamentales : la chaise. Designers et artistes de renommée internationale interviendront en tant que tuteurs et conférenciers.

À St. Pölten en Autriche, quinze étudiants se réuniront en septembre pour s’initier aux techniques locales de la maçonnerie en pierre sous la houlette du designer Daniel Zeisner, directeur de la filière Product Design à la New Design University. En collaboration avec des tailleurs de pierre locaux, les participants associeront des techniques de maçonnerie traditionnelles à une technologie de pointe afin de travailler cette matière de manières inattendues et innovantes. Ce cours bénéficie du soutien de la New Design University, de la confrérie des tailleurs de pierre et de la Chambre de commerce autrichienne.

Pour la première fois, une Summer School aura lieu en septembre à Tétouan au Maroc, marquant le début du rayonnement international de cette initiative. Quinze participants découvriront l’art du zellige, technique traditionnelle marocaine de fabrication de carreaux de faïence. À la faveur d’une approche collaborative et d’une vision contemporaine du design, les étudiants redécouvriront et réinventeront cet artisanat séculaire. Ce cours est organisé en partenariat avec l’Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan.

The Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international centre for research and education on sustainably innovative design and architecture. Founded in 1986 by Alexander von Vegesack, it is located in the Southwest of France on 150 hectares of protected nature, namely forest, pasture, a river, a small lake, and an unpolluted fauna and flora. Passa Ao Futuro founded in 2016 by Astrid Suzano and Fatima Durkee, is a cultural initiative non-profit association that seeks out craftspeople in Portugal working with traditional techniques. It strives to support these communities and people through the documentation and preservation of their tacit knowledge, the development of case specific social, environmental and economic sustainability programmes, with a focus on the celebration and passing on of skills. Founded in 2016 in Riga (Latvia), MAD Design Summer School offers an alternative approach to design and art education. The Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (INBA) in Morocco is an institution of higher education in the field of art, under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. It trains creative young people in the various fields of visual arts. Its vocation is to stimulate the development of new talents and train creative personalities (artists, designers, comic book authors, animated films, etc.) who can follow singular paths within a wide spectrum of disciplines in the world of visual arts (modern and contemporary). A multidisciplinary team of research professors, artists, architects and experienced professionals ensure the theoretical, artistic and technical training and structure for the students.

The University of Pavia is the most ancient athenaeum of Lombardy and one of the most oldest of Europe, being established in 1361. Today, it counts more than 25.000 students for the 17 departments of its branches, one in Pavia and the other one in Cremona, and takes part in international projects in networks with the most prestigious colleges of the world and promotes interdisciplinary research.
