Created in 1987 by Liliane Bettencourt, her husband André Bettencourt and their daughter Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation (Fondation Bettencourt Schueller) aims to contribute to a better French society and boost France's influence on the international stage via three main fields of engagement: life sciences, the arts and inclusive society. Its visionary work in the field of craftsmanship recognises talent and promotes excellence throughout France. Since 1999, it has awarded the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for 'the intelligence of the hand' for exceptional talent, creativity and innovation in craftsmanship.
