Homo Faber Guide - TRAVEL COMPANION

Homo Faber Guide: your inspiring travel companion

Featuring artisanal talents and experiences from all over the world, the digital platform allows users to discover craftsmanship as they travel across the globe.

  • Find over 2,600 artisans from 45 countries across four continents
  • Experience craft first hand on your travels, with new workshops and tours added weekly
  • New functionalities on the home page enable you to make craft discoveries by theme and place

Discover a place through Homo Faber Guide, meet local artisans and explore its hidden craftsmanship. From France to Japan, Colombia to Denmark, search the Guide to find your next creative travel destination. With new workshops and tours added weekly, the chances to experience craft first hand are constantly expanding. In Kyoto, learn to make your own bamboo Wagasa umbrella with Hiyoshiya. In Cyprus, enjoy an introduction to woodturning with brothers Sahand and Navid Gholipour. If you’re passing through the south of France, enjoy gilding your own wooden photo frame with Sophie and Jean Blanc, or discover how to turn your images into beautiful embroideries in Galicia with Minia Banet Fraga. With the recent addition of Uruguay, Uzbekistan and the Guide’s first African country, Zimbabwe, you can now explore authentic craftsmanship in more corners of the world.

Design your next city trip to include craft discoveries. In Amsterdam, head to Umut Lucas Espenaer’s workshop to take part in a woodworking class. Next wind your way through the streets until you reach Milla Novo’s tapestry showroom, housed in an old monastery. In Florence, learn to make your own perfume with Aquaflor and enjoy a unique culinary experience among the 19th-century looms of the Antico Setificio Fiorentino. In Athens, learn how to emulate ancient pottery decorations with Attic Black and visit the marble working atelier of sisters Niki and Zoe Moskofoglou.

Get to the heart of each artisan’s story through the Homo Faber Guide, learn about the craft they practice, their techniques, the objects they create and the individual journeys which make them unique. Find siblings who have built ateliers together, artisans carrying forward a long line of craftsmanship, eco-friendly artisans; those who mix cultural influences, others who have switched careers to become craftspeople, artisans whose work is closely linked to their home regions and many more artisans with inspiring stories to tell. Homo Faber Guide brings you closer to the world of craftsmanship: craft your own itinerary by city or country, follow the recommendations of our Ambassadors, and even find your next mentor or creative partner.
