Established in 2019, the Fonds Yavarhoussen aims to support Madagascar's vibrant contemporary art scene. Since 2021, it has also been committed to promoting the country's rich artistic and cultural heritage by establishing partnerships with internationally renowned institutions. For example, the Fonds has set up a grant with the Institut national d'histoire de l'Art (INHA, Paris) to support academic research on the art history of Madagascar. The Fonds also supports the publication of numerous books, the circulation of which helps to raise the profile of Malagasy culture. Guided by the belief that art and culture are indispensable to a country’s development, founder Hasnaine Yavarhoussen’s vision is to support and promote Malagasy culture both in Madagascar and across the world. From supporting the first Madagascar pavilion at the Venice Biennale to setting up Hakanto Contemporary, the Foundation endeavours to find opportunities to showcase Malagasy talent.
